Privacy policy
Last updated: 15 October 2026. Giortaki is built so that your people stay yours: there are no accounts, and you never need to give us personal details. Ελληνικά
In short
- The people you add, your contacts, their photos and birthdays stay only on your device.
- We do not send contacts, photos or lists of people to anyone.
- The app has no accounts, ads or sale of data. Anonymous usage statistics are off unless you accept them.
The iPhone app
The app stores the following on your device, and only there:
- the people you add to “My people”: name, nickname, birthday and reminder settings;
- if you allow it, the details of the contacts the app recognises: name, birthday, phone number (for the SMS and call buttons) and photo;
- your profile name and photo, if you add them.
We do not ask for access to your contacts until you choose to. Matching names to the name-day calendar happens on your device. You can remove the permission at any time in the iPhone Settings.
Permissions
- Contacts: to find which of your people have a name day or a birthday. Optional.
- Notifications: for reminders you set. They are created on your device, with no server.
- Calendar: only if you turn on the separate “Giortaki” calendar.
- Photos: you pick one photo for your profile with the system picker. The app does not see the rest.
What the app downloads
To keep names, holidays and known Greeks up to date, the app downloads from giortaki.gr the same public data files the website shows. The request contains no personal information. As on any website, the server sees the IP address of the request for technical reasons. What the app shows works without a connection.
When you open a link to Wikipedia, Instagram or X, it opens in a browser window and that service's own policy applies. When you send a wish with Viber, WhatsApp or SMS, or make a call, that app or the iPhone handles it: we do not see the message or the call.
Anonymous statistics (only if you accept)
The first time you open the app, and at any time in Settings, you choose whether to allow anonymous statistics. If you accept, we use Google Firebase Analytics to count what is typed in the name search, which names are opened and which features are used, such as importing contacts, adding a person, turning on reminders or sending a wish. For contacts we only count a rough range, never names, numbers or the wish itself. Google receives an anonymous identifier of the app on your device and the usual technical data, such as device model, system version and approximate region. We do not use the advertising ID or any advertising feature.
If you decline, nothing is collected. You can change your mind in Settings whenever you like.
The website
For cookies and the website's statistics, see the cookie policy (in Greek). There too, the people you add to “My people” stay only on your device.
You are in control
Because the data is on your device, you delete it yourself: remove people in the app or delete the app and everything goes. We keep no copy. For any question about your data, write to us.
